We spend one-third of our lives sleeping. But are we doing so in a healthy environment? How hygienic are the bedding sets we sleep on? Let’s find answers to these questions together.

The biggest mistake we make with bedding set care is waiting for them to get visibly dirty before washing. Although they might look clean, the space where we sleep can actually become an unhealthy environment. Some factors contributing to this are:

Sweat: As we sleep, our body heats up and sweats to cool down. Over time, this sweat accumulates on the bedding.
Oils: Natural oils released from our bodies are absorbed by the bedding.
Body Fluids: Fluids like saliva, urine, and blood may unintentionally end up on the bedding set.
Dead Skin Cells: Every day, our body sheds about a million dead skin cells, which can attract dust mites.

For a healthy sleeping environment, wash your bedding sets weekly. (Wash more frequently if illness is present.) Air out your pillows regularly to maintain their shape and remove dust and dirt. Wash pillows at least twice a year, as they can become a breeding ground for bacteria, which can lead to health issues like diarrhea, bronchitis, and asthma.

Proper washing is crucial to maintaining the quality of your bedding sets over time. Incorrect washing practices can damage them. These are general tips, and specific washing instructions for your product may vary. Always follow the recommended care instructions for your items.

Tips for Washing Your Bedding Set!

  • Avoid washing at high temperatures. High heat can cause colors to fade. For colorful and dark patterns, do not exceed 30 degrees. Remember that all cotton fabrics shrink by up to 5%. (White or very light-toned bedding can be washed at higher temperatures, but check the care label first.)
  • Ensure items are thoroughly dried.
  • Avoid washing bedding with other items to prevent color transfer.
  • Use a quality detergent. Saving on detergent can damage the fabric quality.
  • It’s recommended to wash bedding inside out. Before placing in the machine, roll it into a bundle to help maintain its shape and prevent deformation.
  • Check for any stains on the item before washing. If there are stains, try to gently remove them before washing.
